We Won’t Be Bullied

A series of letters to threaten household tax non-payers are being sent out this summer. These letters tell us nothing new, they are NOT summonses – they are simply letters aimed at panicking people. They should be ignored.

Majority boycotting still

Contrary to government and media propaganda the majority of home-owners have not registered for this unjust tax. 52% of homeowners – over 760,000 people – have not registered.

No proof of ownership

The government are using data from the ESB and other sources. An ESB bill does not prove you own a home. As long as we don’t register, they will have great difficulty in compiling the database they need to impose the property and water taxes.

More home taxes

If they succeed in imposing the household tax, the water tax and property taxes which are to follow will cost the average family between €1,000 and €1,200 per year. This money will be taken from us to pay the gambling debts of bondholders and international financiers.

Austerity failure

Austerity is strangling the economy and ruining the country. Unemployment and emigration are rampant. This Campaign is the most successful anti-austerity campaign in the country and this is our best chance to strike a blow against austerity policies. If we stand firm and are not intimidated we can and will win.

Court cases

Our strength is in our numbers. Because there are so many of us, they will only ever be able to summons a tiny minority of us. Anyone who is unlucky enough to be summonsed will have legal advice and support from the Campaign and will not go to court on their own. The Campaign will also organise massive protests outside any court cases to show the community’s anger at people being taken to court for not paying this unjust tax while the bankers and developers who wrecked the economy get away scot free.

What you should do:

  1. Don’t respond to the letter.  Come to your nearest public meeting.

  2. Get involved in the Campaign – Become a leafleter or volunteer in your local area. The Campaign is established in every county in Ireland. The more who get actively involved the stronger the campaign will be.

  3. Immediately inform the CAHWT if you receive a summons in the future. Meetings will be organised with those affected to discuss all options. Tel 1890 98 98 00.
