Kildare protest against council cuts

30th July 2012 – at Kildare County Council Office, Aras Cill Dara, Naas, Co. Kildare @ 1.pm, The KCC held a council meeting to discuss the cuts to the council budget. A statement from Kildare Council Council which confirmed the original budget for the year was €20,127,482 said the cuts reflect “an adjustment based on the level of household charge compliance achieved to date of 55% in Kildare.

In response to this we held a lunchtime protest today outside the offices of Kildare County Council. We called on Kildare County Council to publically denounce the recent cutting of its budget by Phil Hogan’s Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. The government’s attempt to blame the Campaign Against the Household, Water and Septic Charges for these cuts is blatantly disingenuous.

We also delivered a letter to their council meeting outlining our outrage at their lack of support and urged them to decide whether or not they are willing to defend the ordinary citizens they were elected to represent.

Councilor Seamie Moore (Naas) stopped to talk to us before going in to the meeting and agreed to give our letter worthy consideration. Councilor Francis Browne (Kildare) would not stop to talk to us. The rest of the councilors avoided us and went in through the staff entrance… for shame!!!
